On Friday, May 6, 2016, Shamasha Amir Sha’ya was ordained a Deacon by His Excellency, Mar Sarhad Yawsip Jammo at St. Peter Chaldean Catholic Cathedral. The ordination took place at 6:00PM, an event that has taken months of preparation to witness.
According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church:
The sacrament of Holy Orders marks them with an imprint (“character”) which cannot be removed and which configures them to Christ, who made himself the “deacon” or servant of all. Among other tasks, it is the task of deacons to assist the bishop and priests in the celebration of the divine mysteries, above all the Eucharist, in the distribution of Holy Communion, in assisting at and blessing marriages, in the proclamation of the Gospel and preaching, in presiding over funerals, and in dedicating themselves to the various ministries of charity. (CCC 1570)
The newly ordained Deacon Amir will serve St. Michael Chaldean Catholic Church. We ask for God’s blessing and graces as this newly ordained M-shamshana begins his ministry to the Church.
