THE MESOPOTAMIAN QUDDASHA

No text of a Eucharistic Prayer, extant in the present liturgical practice of the Church universal, can rival the Mesopotamian Quddasha (i.e. Anaphora) of Addai & Mari in its claim to apostolic origin. Despite the existence, within its actual tenure, of detectable segments of later insertions and additions, the core of its textual tissue shows evidence of the apostolic era.

The basic structure of the Anaphora in Mesopotamian tradition is as follows: 1) Glorification and Praise of God for the creation of the world and the salvation of men; 2) Thanksgiving to God for the redemption through Christ; 3) Making Memorial of Christ by the Church, in response to the memorial that Christ makes of his Church before his father. Thus, the three sections of the Mesopotamian Anaphora are explicitly connected to the scriptural description of what the Lord did at the Last Supper, having addressed to the Father: a prayer of praise, and of thanksgiving, and then requesting from his disciples to “do this” in memory of him.   

Since the early centuries up to modern times, the apostolic Quddasha of Addai & Mari has been adapted to theological and liturgical developments, following the practice of the universal Church.  Consequently, the Qaddysh (Holy, Holy…), the Nethe Mar Ruhakh Qaddysha (May your Holy Spirit come…), and the Narrative of the Last Supper, were incorporated into the structure of the Anaphora, and the Kushape (Supplications) were attached to it as well, one Kushapa before each one of the three sections.

Main Problematic of the Old Missal and Practice

Looking closely into the text of the Quddasha da-Shlyhe as it is rendered in the Old Missal, we notice that the Narrative has been inserted between the Glorification and the Thanksgiving, in an artificial textual and conceptual connection. As for the general practice of our parishes, it is the common custom to let the celebrant recite privately the whole Anaphora, except the Narrative which is chanted by him, while the people are seated and the choir are singings all kinds of hymns.

On Saturday March 10^th, 2007, a group of Chaldean youth from St. Peter Chaldean Cathedral in El Cajon, and from St. Barbara Chaldean Mission in Las Vegas, together attended a retreat at St. George Chaldean Monastery near Lake Matthews in Riverside, CA, with the presence of Fr. Anderaws Toma. They all gathered alongside Father Andrew Younan who gave a lovely talk on the Temptation of the Lord and enjoyed other activities. What a great event!

Spring Youth Activities

Bingo Night  

On Monday March 26, 2007, a youth group from St. Peter Chaldean Cathedral organized a fundraiser event to raise money for Cancer Organization. They had a successful turnout with the ladies from the Sacred Heart Sodality who generously participated in the event.

from the” Breath of Life” youth:

On Saturday March 24, 2007, The Lord was truly at work during the Lenten season through the activities of the youth. We truly were on a journey with Christ through his passion. We had multiple retreats which focused on his suffering and turmoil. Because the death of Christ is what we focused on we really tried to die to ourselves through our sacrifices and prayer. Each retreat and activity was centered on our own personal journey through lent. We reflected on the Simon’s, Veronica’s, and Virgin Mary’s in our lives. More importantly, we remembered the times where we failed to help Christ. As we died to ourselves during lent, we had the greatest joy in Resurrecting with our Lord. Our rising was both spiritual and physical because of the way we now approach prayer and our actions toward others.

Spring Youth Activities

Catechism Retreat & Easter Carnival

On Saturday March 31, 2007, nearly 600 children from catechism school with their teachers gathered in St. Peter’s Chaldean Cathedral for a morning retreat. It was such a beautiful sight seeing so many Children from all ages praising the Lord.

          After a morning filled with prayer and meditation, an Easter carnival was prepared for the children by the Knights of Columbus. They spent hours jumping around on castle bounces, and enjoyed the food.

The Knights of Columbus, Mar-Toma Council is preparing a graduation yearbook and party for the class of 2007. We will be offering up to 15 scholarships this year.

          We urge our graduates to fill the application form which can be picked up from St. Peter’s or St. Michael’s church office as soon as possible in order to be qualified.

The last day to accept applications is Sunday, May 27, 2007.

How the story began…

In 2006, a few women came together with an idea.

An idea to create a local charity comprised of Chaldean American women who can help those in need, preserve our heritage and enrich the community through awareness and advocacy, promote voluntarism, and provide spiritual enrichment.

To incorporate these ideas, the women created opportunities for the community to learn more about the charity and participate in scheduled events.

Since 2006, the Ladies of Charity have collected furniture, appliances, and other household items in addition to providing transportation to needy families.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the individuals and businesses that donated these much-needed items.

How the story continues….

The Ladies of Hope will be officially launching the charity and its membership drive at a dinner and fashion show in May.

·         The event will take place at St. Peter’s Church Hall on May 4, 2007.

·         Tickets are $60.00 per person (a limited amount of VIP tickets will be available for $75.00 a person).

كيف بدأت الفكرة؟

خلال عام 2006، راودت بعض السيدات الفاضلات فكرة تأسيس جمعية خيرية تعمل على تقديم المحبة والمساعدات في الحقل الأنساني، وتحثّ من لديه قدرة العمل على التطوع والأنتماء لهذه الجمعية التي تسعى في اهدافها للحفاظ على تراثنا العريق والأرتقاء بالروابط الروحية التي تتحلى بها الجالية الى المستوى الأفضل. وهنالك عدة مشاريع في خطة الجمعية من ضمنها:

إقامة أمسية ترفيهية لعرض الأزياء يوم الجمعة May 4, 2007 على قاعة كاتدرائية مار بطرس الكلدانية عند الساعة السابعة مساءً (7:00pm )، يتخللها عشاءٌ كاملٌ مع فتح باب الأنتماء لمن ترغب المشاركة في هذه الجمعية. علماً بأن ثمن البطاقة 60$.

" أنا آسف " في قاموس فلسفتي هي دفع فاتورة غلطتي

كل إنسان منّـا في هذه الحياة له فلسفة خاصة في مناحي حياته ،، سواء ً أكانت إجتماعية أو سياسية أو إقتصادية وحتى في حياته العملية ،، يضع نصب عينيه مبادئ وقيم لا يمكن أن يحيد عنها مهما كانت الأسباب ...ولعل من أبرز تلك المناحي ، المناحي الإجتماعية وفن التعامل مع الآخرين ، ذلك الفن الذي لايبدع فيه إلا من إتصف بالحلم والحكمه والأناة ، وأمام تلك الصفات التي قلما توجد ! نجد أن الكثير منـّا يقع في خطأ  طريقة التعامل مع الاخرين الذي قد يصل إلى التجريح سواء ً بقول أو بفعل ، وأمام تلك الهفوات كان لزاما ًعلينا أن ندفع فواتير اخطائنا ونقدم الإعتذار بقول : "أنا آسف" على أقل تقدير.. وتختلف نظرة الناس لتلك الكلمة بإختلاف أجناسهم كل ٌحسب تربيته وبيئته المحيطة به فمنهم من تخرج منه بشكل مباشر و بأسهل مايكون ولا يندم على نطقها ،، وبعضهم من ينطقها مصحوبة ً بدموعه كدليل على صدقه وعلى ندمه ومنهم من يخطئ ويغضب وينفعل ثم يقوم "في الحال" بالإعتذار ومحاولة إعطاء الطرف الآخر عدة تبريرات لإقناعه بقبول أسفه وهناك من يخطئ ثم تكون ردة فعله متأنية بعض الشئ ، لذلك تجده بعد أيام يتقدم للأعتذار بعدما يجلب معه تبريرات "مقنعة" وراء ذلك الخطأ معلناً رد إعتبار الطرف الآخر والأجمل من هذا كله الإعتذار الصريح المباشر بقول :"أنا آسف" "لم أقصد إيذَءَك"،،، محاولاً كسب رضاه بأي وسيلة لكن بشرط أن يكون ذلك بشكل مباشر وواضح ،،هذا النوع من الإعتذار جميل جدا ً لأنه يردّ قيمة واعتبار الطرف الآخر مع الحفاظ على كرامة المرء بغض النظر عمـّا يعانيه من متاعب وصراعات داخلية اجبرته للأنزلاق في احيان كثيرة بغير قصد للوقوع في ذلك الخطأ الذي سبب الأذى للطرف الاخر. . الصادقون في عواطفهم .. لا يبالون بالمظاهر ولا تهزهم محاولة الاخرين للتقليل من قيمتهم واصطياد الفرص للنيل منهم وايهامهم بان العفوية وصدق النوايا هي مآخذ وسلبيات وضعف بالشخصية يجب التخلص منها . فمن السهل أن تحب الناس ولكن من الصعب أن تجبرهم على حبك، والنفوس القوية والنقية لا تعرف اليأس لانها دائما مرتاحة الضمير فليس من الصعب أن تضحي من أجل صديق .. ولكن من الصعب أن تجد صديقاً يستحق التضحية ومن السهل أن ترى الناس على حقيقتهم .. لكن من الصعب أن ترى نفسك على حقيقتها فنحن نتقابل مع الناس كل لحظة .. لكننا لا نتقابل مع أنفسنا إلا نادراً .

وأخيرا،  ننسى اخطاءَنا وزلاتنا واساءَتنا عندما نجرح الاخرين، فالمصيبة ان هؤلاء الاخرين لا ينسون

معاً ... لنحمي خُبز ابنائنا

كان الهدف الذي وضعهُ نخبة من التجار الكلدان في مدينة سان دييگو قبل احد عشر عاماً حينما صاغوا فكرة انشاء جمعيتنا هو حماية خبز ابنائنا من  جشع مصالح الكبار وصناع القرارات في ولاية كاليفورنيا .

          حيث كانت القرارات التي تتخذ بحق اصحاب محلات المشروبات ولاتزال جائرة، تؤثر في النهاية على العوائل التي تسترزق من هذا النوع من العمل .

          فكان ولابد ان يكون هناك من يحمي هذه العوائل ويحافظ على حقوقهم ويقف بوجه هذه القرارات التي ليست في صالحهم. فاثمرت الجهود المضنية التي بذلها ثلة من الكلدان بتشكيل (جمعية التجار الكلدان ) لتتحول بعدها الى ( جمعية تجار سان دييگو ) . وكان لقيادة السيد ( اركان صومو ) والكادر الكفوء معه في ادارة الهيئة الادارية اثراً بالغاً في خوض غمار تجربة كانت  فريدة من نوعها وخصوصاً انها تجربة على المحك السياسي  لولاية كاليفورنيا . ولم يُقصر السيد ( عدي عرَبو ) ايضاً في اكمال مسيرة النجاح الذي حققه سابقوه، حيث استطاع ان يُحدث طفرة نوعية في العمل الدؤوب الى درجة اصبح عدد اعضاء الجمعية يفوق الألف وأربعمائة عضو. 

          كما غيّر نطاق العمل ليشمل كل ولاية كاليفورنيا ولا يقتصر على مخازن المشروبات فقط. مما حدى بنا الى تغيير اسم الجمعية من جمعية تجار سان دييگو الى ( جمعية المخازن المستقلة في كاليفورنيا )، وحين تمّ الاندماج مع جمعية اخرى تدافع عن بعض التجار في شمال كاليفورنيا اصبح عدد الاعضاء اكثر وتأثير الجمعية مع صُناع القرار مباشراً في مدينة سكرمنتو فتغير اسمها اليوم الى ( جمعية اسواق الجيران ) لتشمل ولايات اخرى، فباتت إحدى اكبر المنظمات الفعالة  في الساحل الغربي للولايات المتحدة الاميركية ومقرها الرئيس مدينة سان دييگو.

          عليه نناشد كل اصحاب المحلات المستقلة في ولاية كاليفورنيا الانضمام الى جمعيتنا الغراء ليصبحوا جزءاً من العائلة الواحدة . ويكون صوتنا رسالة الى كل اصحاب القرار يعلمهم أن هناك عيوناً يقظة يجب أن يُحسبُ لها ألف  حساب حينما يُقبلون على صياغة القرارت في ولاية كاليفورنيا.
