The Liturgical  Season of the Apostles:

            In Pentecost, among other factors of the Holy Spirit’s manifestation, fire and wind make an impressive effect. What a combination! What a powerful force, whose consequences may be devastating, especially for people aware of it like us living in California!  But, how significant that same force could be in the service of the Spirit!

            Indeed, fire is the force that penetrates and consumes the being of what it touches. So the Holy Spirit is sent from the beginning of Church life to penetrate the whole ecclesial body, warming it up with faith and love, connecting it to the divine sphere of the Kingdom of Heaven, and tying its members to each other. The “Disciples” became “Apostles” because of the reception of that transforming force which gave them wisdom and fortitude, patience and peace, most of all the assurance that their master Jesus the Lord is the eschatological king of the universe.

            If the immediate effect of fire is to transform the being of what it touches, it belongs to wind to spread it all over, wave after wave, so that the initial witnessing Church is propelled with infinite energy into a missionary universal mandate. It did not take thirty years since Pentecost before we saw Rome, the Capital of the world, engulfed by its flame. Nero, the lunatic emperor, wanted to confuse the Roman fire and wind with Pentecostal fire and wind, but attentive historians were better informed, and we can observe with them how the effects of Pentecostal power are universal and perennial.

            Furthermore, our generation, surrounded by a materialistic culture and distorted civilization values, has an urgent need for the transforming and sanctifying energy of the Holy Spirit, which is given to humble souls through the sacraments of the Church and a sincere and ardent prayer.  The Holy Spirit is the bastion of hope for our generation to overcome the temptations of materialistic culture, centered upon physical pleasures and earthly desires, as though they are the fulfilling parameters of human happiness. What a deception and what a myopic vision of human experience! At the end of the day, every experienced and mature person knows that a human heart can be genuinely filled only by the Spirit of God.

            As the liturgical season takes to the apostolic times, it makes us realize that while the Church is the sacramental Body of the Lord, where all of the faithful are organically organized according to their ministry, it is perennially animated by his Spirit for the fulfillment of its transforming and missionary mandate.

Ecclesial Unity of the Church of the East

In the atmosphere of Pentecost - that of spiritual joy and Christian love - the ecclesial unity celebrations between Chaldeans and Assyrians, Catholic and Apostolic, were conducted, as scheduled, on Saturday and Pentecost Sunday, May 10 & 11 2008, in the cities of Turlock, Ceres and Modesto CA.  The liturgical ceremonies and the social banquet were performed in order to finalize and seal the merger, in the Catholic Diocese of St. Peter the Apostle, of four Assyrian parochial communities and two missions, including their clergy and faithful. 
 

Bishop Mar Sarhad Y. Jammo, Eparch of the Catholic Diocese of St. Peter the Apostle, presided over the ceremonies, accompanied by Bishop Mar Bawai Soro, the spiritual leader of the unity movement among the Assyrians, with the participation of the Assyrian and Chaldean regional clergy, having all of them professed publicly, with their faithful, the Catholic faith in the Lord and his Church.

Another great event was the consecration of St. Matthew Church in Ceres, CA. Followed by the fundraising dinner for the new parish.

Hundreds of faithful prayed to God to see and witness these historic celebrations. Many were so overwhelmed and thankful for the grace of God that was the way and the light to this truthful unity.
 

            Dr. Lincoln Malik wrote an article titled “A Child of Unity Is Born Unto Us”, it was posted on our websites www.kaldu.org and www.kaldaya.net. Here are excerpts from it: “Like most of us, I learned in the lap of my mother to want unity for our people, to pray for it and to always strive for it. Yet, despite my full conviction that unity of our people is absolutely critical for our survival as a nation, I did not expect to see unity realized in my lifetime.” “There is the clear intimation that those of us who participated in this unity abandoned our true beliefs and submitted ourselves to the Catholic Church.”

 

“It would have been much easier for both Mar Sarhad and Mar Bawai to have stayed separated and in sole control of their flocks. The road to reconciliation and unity is not easy, and it will not get easier with time.  It has been a difficult path, and building this unity will continue to be a difficult endeavor.  Both these two holy men know this, but they are committed to see it through because they know it is the Christian and nationalist thing to do. Many of our people seem to forget, or may not know, that the reconciliation that led to this unity is founded on the bedrock of the “Common Christological Declaration Between the Catholic Church and the Assyrian Church of the East” signed November 11, 1994 by Pope John Paul II and Mar Dinkha IV.  This declaration came after many long years of discussions and discourse between the two ancient churches till agreement and reconciliation was achieved.

الأب جبرائيل شمامي

آمنت المرأة المنزوفة بقوة يسوع الشفائية وبمجرد لمسها له  شفيت، كان لها الأيمان وكامل الثقة بأن يسوع سيشفيها فشفيت. لا فقط شفيت من مرض جسدها بل من  امراض روحها أيضا .هكذا فعل يسوع لكثيرين من المرضى شفاهم نفسا وجسدا .

لنذهب إليه ونحن مصابون بشتى الأمراض الخطيرة، نحن مرضى أوهامنا، عاداتنا السيئة، إدماننا، اوهامنا الرخيصة ،غرائزنا، شهواتنا، انانيتنا المدمرة، كرهنا، حقدنا، جهلنا، فقرنا الروحي، كلها أمراض معدية. كم من هذه الأمراض نقلناها لأطفالنا بالوراثة وبالمثل السيىء من جراء التربية غير الصالحة، وكم مرض اعدينا به مجتمعنا، ولا يوم من الأيام وعينا لخطورة ما فعلناه، ولا يوم طلبنا الشفاء ولا ندمنا لنتوب ونصحح وفي الأخير نُشفي من أعديناه بأمراضنا. وكيف نشفي ونحن مرضى؟ ألا يقال لنا (يا طبيب إشفِ نفسك ).ومن اراد الشفاء عليه بما يلي:

1- الدخول الى مصح يسوع ، ويسوع نفسه هو الطبيب الشافي .

2-  مواجهة الطبيب وجها لوجه .

3- الكشف له بما تعاني وبصراحة تامة.

4- أن تقبل بتواضع وخضوع لوسائل علاجه ونصائحه.

5- الثقة  به.

6-  ألأيمان بقدرته الشفائية.

7- العمل بكلامه وإرشاداته وكلمته مصباح لخطاك ونور لسبيلك وشفاء لأمراضك.

8- لن تشفى من نواقص طفولتك ولا من أمراض نفسك إلا بالمحبة الحقيقية  له ولكل البشر.

9- أن تكتسب المناعة بتناول جسده طوال حياتك كغذاء روحي وتتحد به.

10- أن تستحم روحيا (بسر التوبة – ألإعتراف) وتصبح نظيف القلب دوما.

يسوع هو هو بالأمس واليوم والى الأبد.

إذا كنت اعمى فكما شفى عميانا كثيرين فهو قادر أن يفتح عيون قلبك لترى نور الأيمان وتسير في طريق الخلاص .وإذا كنت أعرج أو أفلج ومرارا سقطت في أمراضك وفي خطيئتك وهو الذي شفى العرج  بإمكانه أن يُقيّم رجليك لتستقيم خطواتك في درب القداسة. وإذا كنت حتى ميتا من ناحية الروح فهو الذي أقام لعازر وبنت يائير وإبن الأرملة جسديا وأقام مريم المجدلية الخاطئة والزانية ولص اليمين من موتهم الروحي فهو قادر ان يقيمك ويهبك نسمة الحياة لتبدأ الحياة من جديد معه كما فعل ألإبن الضال عندما رجع الى ابيه.

الإحتفال بعيد قلب يسوع الأقدس
في كاتدرائية مار بطرس الكلدانية في سان دييگو

احتفلت كاتدرائية مار بطرس الكلدانية صباح الجمعة 30 أيار  2008  بعيد قلب يسوع الاقدس. اذ قام سيادة راعي الابرشية المطران مار سرهد يوسپ جمو بزياح القربان المقدس، ثم استأنف بعد ذلك الاحتفال بقداس العيد، وبهذه المناسبة انضمت هذا العام عضوتان جديدتان الى الاخوية. فقام الاب ميخائيل بزي راعي الكاتدرائية بقبولهما في اخوية قلب يسوع الاقدس.

بعد القداس بدأ اعضاء الاخوية بزياح لراية القلب الاقدس داخل الكنيسة وتقبيل صورة قلب يسوع. ثم توجه الجميع الى قاعة الكنيسة لتناول الغذاء سوية مع راعي الابرشية ومع الاباء الكهنة الافاضل.

A Joyous Occasion- Consecration of the Altar

 On May 24, 2008, Mar Sarhad Yawsip Jammo consecrated the altar at St. Barbara Chaldean Church in Las Vegas. In attendance were Mar Bawai Soro, many priests of the diocese, deacons, and hundreds of faithful from Las Vegas and elsewhere. After the ceremony, there was a beautiful banquet to commemorate the joyous occasion. Congratulations to Fr. Anderaws Toma, the new pastor, and the faithful of St. Barbara Church

تم بمعونة الرب الاحتفال بتكريس كنيسة القديسة بربارة في مدينة لاس فيگاس بولاية نيفادا-  اميركا. اذ ترأس سيادة راعي ابرشيتنا مار سرهد يوسپ جمو مراسيم التقديس يعاونه جنبا الى جنب سيادة الاسقف مار باوَي سورو، وبحضور لفيف من الاباء الكهنة،  بالاضافة الى عدد كبير من المؤمنين وخاصة القادمين من خارج مدينة لاس فيگاس  ومن سان دييگو وميشيگن واريزونا وولاية يوتا. بدأ احتفال التكريس تمام الساعة 11:00 صباحا، وانتهى عند 12.30 ظهرا. بعد رتبة التقديس، تكلم سيادة مار باوَي سورو عن معنى الاتحاد الكنسي ومغزاه، وكانت كلمته مؤثرة جداً.
 

           تفضل سيادة راعي الابرشية بشكر جميع الحاضرين، وقام بتقديم الاباء الكهنة للحضور وتعريفهم واحدا واحداً. وشكر جهود كل من بذل ويبذل وقتاً في سبيل خدمة الانجيل وخدمة الكنيسة، ثم دعا سيادته اعضاء مجلس خورنة القديسة بربارة ان يحضروا امام المذبح ليشكرهم على كل ما عملوه لانجاح هذا المشروع. وعين لها راعياً ثابتاً كاهناً شاباً غيوراً هو الاب اندراوس الراهب.

      بانتهاء الاحتفال الكنسي توجه الحاضرون الى قاعة الكنيسة، للاحتفال بهذه المناسبة المفرحة. واثناء المأدبة القى الشماس عزيز رزوقي، رئيس المجلس الاستشاري الابرشي كلمة بالمناسبة، ثم قرأ اسماء المتبرعين لمشروع الكنيسة الجديدة، اسماء الذين قدموا عطاءاتهم للكنيسة بشكل دين لمدة سنتين قابلة للتجديد. تلا ذلك اجراء سحبة بطاقة اليانصيب على لوحة للقديسة بربارة  فربحتها سيدة من مدينة سان دييگو (وارينة الياس توما)، الف مبروك لها.
 

            وفي مساء اليوم التالي اقامت لجنة الكنيسة حفلة عشاء لإستقبال الكاهن الجديد القى خلالها السيد بسام ابونا كلمة عبر فيها عن امتنان وشكر لجنة الكنيسة لأبيهم وراعيهم مار سرهد يوسپ على جهوده المتواصلة في خدمة الأبرشية، كما وشكر سيادة مار باوَي سورو على حضوره وكلمته المؤثرة. ثم رحب بسام بالأب اندراوس توما مهنئاً إياه استلامه ادارة خورنة القديسة بربارة.

لقاء

قام السيد سمير اسطيفو شبلا احد ابناء خورنة القديسة بربارة باجراء لقاء مع السادة الاساقفة وبعض الاباء في حفل الافتتاح وهذا جانب منه:

 

سمير: ماذا تعني الوحدة بمعناها الحقيقي والعملي؟

مار باوَي: الكنيسة ليست للكلدان وحسب، ولا للآثوريين أيضاً، انها كنيسة المشرق - الأم، عليه يكون معنى الوحدة الحقيقي هو المُعاش، هو العيش المشترك، هو قبول الآخر بسلبياته وإيجابياته، وهذا هو الحب الحقيقي الذي يريده منا الرب يسوع المسيح، إذن معنى الوحدة النظري يكون في العلم والتعلم، ولكن شتان بين النظرية والتطبيق، وهنا تكمن الصعوبة، هي في نقطة الانطلاق وهذا ما فعلناه مع إخوتنا الكلدان، لأن مفهوم الوحدة بالنسبة لي هو إنطلاق من حب الإنسان الى الآخر ومهما كان هذا الآخر، فكيف إن كان أخي؟

 

سمير: هل كان هناك مؤثر ما للإنضمام الى الكلدان؟

مار باوَي: كان هناك تأثير من قبل والديّ في تعليمي وتربيتي الدينية وكذلك من آبائي الروحيين في الكنيسة، وثالثاً كنت سعيد الحظ لصداقتي وأُخُوّتي مع الكلدان الذين أثبتوا حبهم الصميمي والحقيقي لي شخصياً ولكنيستي ولشعبي، لذا أكون متأثراً بالكلدان مثلما أنا متأثر بآثوريتي، انها مسيرة الحياة ومراحلها ومطباتها بحلوها ومرها، المهم في النتيجة ان تفرح من حواليك.

 

سمير: كيف تقرأ ولادة كنيسة جديدة في لاس فيگاس؟

مار سرهد: إننا اليوم نكون في ومع جوهر كنيسة المشرق! حيث نلتقي بأثمن تحقيق لروح كنيستنا وآبائنا الروحيين ومنه ننطلق الى مستقبل يملأه الرجاء لنا جميعاً، وهذه دعوة الى جميع أبناء هذه الكنيسة المجيدة للإنطلاق من هذا الجوهر الذي يحمل روح آبائنا العظام.

The Story of the Lion & the Rabbit

The animals of the forest made a bargain with a ferocious lion who killed for pleasure. It was agreed that one animal each day would willingly come to the lion's den to be his supper and, in turn, the lion would never hunt again. The first to go to the lion's den was a timid rabbit, who went slowly. "Why are you late?" the lion roared when the rabbit arrived. "I'm late because of the other lion," said the rabbit. "In my jungle? Take me to this other lion." The rabbit led the lion to a deep well and told him to look in. The lion saw his own reflection in the water and roared! The sound of his roar bounced right back at him as an echo. "I alone am king of this jungle," he roared again. With that, the lion became so enraged, he charged into the deep well with a great splash! The lion attacked his own reflection and was never heard from again.
