BASIC Jr High Youth Group has been a functioning youth group of St. Peter Cathedral for a number of years. On Saturday, March 17, 2017, a group of 40 girls were able to attend the first BASIC retreat at St. George Monastery. The 6th through 8th graders met at St. Peter Cathedral where they took a bus to St. George Monastery. For many of the young ladies, this was their first night away from home as well as their first retreat experience.
The retreat, lead by Sister Tarbytha and the BASIC girl leaders, was based on the story of the Woman Caught in Adultery found in John 8. The retreat focused on reminding the girls that they are God’s children, making them daughters of a King. Throughout the different talks, activities and small groups, the girls were able to encounter God in a way they hadn’t before.
A special thank you to Fr. Simon Esshaki for making the drive up to Riverside in order to say Mass for the girls on retreat, as well as to all the wonderful leaders who put their hearts and souls into planning and executing this retreat.
Brothers And Sisters In Christ (BASIC) Jr. High Youth Group takes place at St. Peter Cathedral every Friday from 6:30-8PM and is open to all boys and girls in the 5th-8th grade.
