Imitating and following the footsteps of our Lord Jesus Christ, His Excellency Mar Sarhad Yawsip Jammo commenced the Passover Thursday at St. Peter Chaldean Cathedral with washing the feet of twelve young disciples. After His Excellency finished washing of feet, he bestowed the blood of Christ for each one of them. His Excellency and elite of deacons ended the occasion with hymns and prayers of our Chaldean divine liturgy.
After reviving the historical events of what our Lord Jesus did with his disciples in the upper room, His Excellency began Mass with the glorifying prayers. He explained in his homily that our Lord instituted the first mass in the upper room with his disciples by giving them his body and blood under the form of bread and wine. His Excellency also illustrated that priest and Eucharist are the core of the spiritual life and the life of the Catholic Church. Then he ended the Divine Mass with the blessing prayer. The Passover Thursday was finalized with the procession of the Holy Eucharist led by His Excellency, priests, deacons and big congregation that were singing Eucharistic prayers to the end of the procession.
Holy Thursday concluded with the vigil prayer service of the passion of Christ to begin Passion Friday. Yesterday evening also concluded the season of Lent in the Chaldean rite and began the fasting of the passion of Christ. Enjoy the pictures from last night’s event below.
