The Thursday evening prayer service, “From the Garden to the Cross”, has become a tradition at St. Peter Cathedral. The prayer service takes place every year after the reading of the Passion narrative in darkness. It begins at 9pm and includes scripture readings, meditations and hymns focusing on 9 characters from the Lord’s life and passion.
Throughout the evening, priests sit for confession and allow the faithful to truly enter into the Lord’s passion beginning in the Garden of Gethsemane. Echoing the question of Christ, “Could you not wait with me one hour?”, the faithful wait with Christ while reflecting on each character. It is a truly rewarding experience for those who attend and one of the more popular liturgical events for the english speaking youth of the church.
