His Excellency, Bishop Mar Sarhad Yawsip Jammo gave his first lecture at St. John Parish in Sweden. This was the first of a number of lectures he will be giving throughout the area during the following week.
The lecture was titled, “Spiritual Renewal from the Chaldean Heritage,” where he spoke to the people about the importance of staying faithful to our Chaldean Liturgy and heritage. He spoke of the history of the Chaldean people in the Catholic Church and that we are able to call Abraham, Isaac and Jacob our fathers just as Christ did because Abraham came from Ur of the Chaldeans. For this reason, we should not be running after other Rites in the Church. We are princes sitting on top of a chest of treasure and we have forgotten what riches we have. We are wasting our time begging from other rites and taking from those who are not our own.
The Bishop exhorted the people to return to the richness of their Chaldean heritage. Each rite in the Church has its beauty and its tradition, to each God has given his own and it is time to reclaim what is our own. We are Chaldean Catholics, with a heritage and tradition that has a unique beauty. Let us return to our original beauty, a beauty that belonged to our fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
