Doing God’s will is something that could be a very tough thing to do, especially when we do not know his plan or understand why certain things happen. We look at examples of Christians who have been faithful to the will of God and try our best to imitate them. The Blessed Virgin Mary is our best example of that.
She was a young Jewish girl who was living her normal life, when suddenly she received an apparition from God’s messenger that would change her life totally. God wanted her to be part of his plan of salvation for the world. Without being fully aware of what her role would be and what she would have to endure during her life, she humbly accepted his word and said, “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word (Luke 1:38). Like Mary, we should all have that complete trust in God, no matter what he wants for us in our lives. Her example of obedience is an example for all Christians to follow, so that they can be faithful to God just as she was. The last words of Mary in the Gospel are when she says to the servants at the Wedding at Cana, “Do whatever he tells you” (John 2:5). These words are a call to all Christians to follow the example of Mary in being faithful to anything Christ would ask us to do. In being faithful to Christ and his word, we have for us an example of faithfulness in Mary, and someone who we can turn to for help in following the will of her son, Jesus Christ.
