On Thursday evening, July 18, 2013, the Seminary of Mar Abba the Great hosted their annual Donor Dinner to honor all of their benefactors. The event took place at the Seminary where the evening began with a social hour, followed by a short speech given by the rector, Fr. Andrew Younan, and then dinner. During his speech, Fr. Andrew spoke of what a blessing it is to be part of St. Peter Diocese as well as mentioning how much work that involves as well. Afterward, His Excellency, Mar Sarhad Yawsip Jammo said a blessing over the meal and invited the guests to enjoy the dinner.
Though the evening was in celebration of the many donors whose generosity has kept the seminary functioning, it also happened to be the 11th Anniversary of Mar Sarhad’s installation as Bishop of St. Peter Diocese. In these 11 years, Mar Sarhad has founded a number of institutions including the Chaldean Media Center, the Seminary of Mar Abba the Great and the Chaldean Convent of the Workers of the Vineyard.
Currently, there are 8 seminarians studying for the priesthood in St. Peter Diocese. In two years, four of the senior seminarians will be ordained priests, the first in the history of the Seminary of Mar Abba the Great. The first Chaldean Seminary outside of Iraq, the Seminary of Mar Abba the Great was founded by His Excellency, Mar Sarhad Yawsip Jammo and has been a blessing for this Diocese.
