Twenty-one Servers and Lectors were dedicated during Mass on Friday, December 7, 2012. This tremendous blessing was a joyous occasion for all those who were present. The readings were chosen from the Second Sunday of Subara, which are the readings for the coming Sunday. They were especially fitting since the ceremony took place on the eve of the Memorial of Mary the Immaculate. The gospel was St. Luke’s account of the annunciation. The readings are available on the Sunday Readings page.
During his homily, Mar Sarhad spoke about how Our Lady is the example that we are supposed to follow. We are called to give ourselves to the Holy Spirit who works through us in different ways, some as priests, as Deacons, as Servers and Lectors and so on. With Our Lady, those who are called to service by the Holy Spirit say with her, “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.”
Afterward, a short reception took place in the St. Peter’s Church Hall in celebration of the event. May the prayers of Our Lady the Immaculate be with all of those who have dedicated themselves to serving the Lord’s Altar.
