The second day of the pilgrimage began with a visit to Vatican city where we were able to attend the Papal audience, where his Holiness, Pope Benedict XVI gave his customary Wednesday reflection on the steps outside of St. Peter’s Basilica. He spoke of how Our Lady is the best example of prayer and contemplation. He encouraged the faithful who were present to entrust all they have to Mary our mother.
The group had a great surprise when the Patriarch, Mar Emmanuel Delly happened to be at the audience. Later that evening, he honored the pilgrims by joining them for dinner.
After the Wednesday audience, the group visited the Coliseum, the Roman Forum and the Church of St. Peter in Chains before returning to their hotel for the evening. Seeing the place where many of the early Christian Martyrs died was a truly powerful experience for the pilgrims, especially while our fellow Christian brethren are suffering persecution in their mother country now.
