By Sandy Rabban
The winning teams were:
Boys Soccer - Mar Auraha Church
Girls Soccer - St. George Church
Boys Volleyball - St. Mary Church
Girls Volleyball - St. Peter Cathedral
Boys Basketball - St. Mary Church
Girls Basketball - Mar Auraha Church
In the boy’s basketball tournament, Mar Auraha
played an undefeated St. Mary's team in the championship game. In
the end it was St. Mary's that triumphed with a dominant effort &
earned the title of 2008 Youth Convention Champions.
In a close match up between St Peter's & St. George's girl’s soccer
teams, St. George won in controversial fashion by one goal.
The Mar Auraha girl’s basketball team proved to be too strong for
the competition & went undefeated in the girl’s basketball
tournament to win the championship.
Congratulations to all the winning teams for an outstanding effort
to all sports participants!
Girl’s volleyball was very competitive. St. Peter’s Cathedral team
played against St. Paul Church, St. Matthew Church, Mar Auraha
Church, and finally St. George Church. The girls played best of 3
with each church. There were 2 strong servers on the team who were
also on volleyball teams in both school and outside of school. The
rest of the team players were amateurs. The girls were very focused,
especially on what they wanted. Their goal was to win the trophy and
to bring it home to St. Peter Chaldean Cathedral to display in Fr.
Michael Bazzi’s office. They wanted to make him proud. Go St.
Peter’s Girls Volleyball Team! You rock!
