Breath Of Life
Youth Group
"Then
the Lord God formed man of dust from the ground and breathed
into his nostrils the Breath Of Life and man became a living
being."
~ Genesis 2:7 ~
Who are we?
The
Breath Of Life Youth Group (BOL) first started in February of
2006 at St. Peter's Chaldean Catholic Cathedral in El Cajon,
California. In the beginning, the group met every Saturday night
at 7pm in the old rectory of the Church. By the end of our first
year, BOL got so large that there was no longer any room to
conduct the meetings. However, because of the growing number of
youth and young adults attending each week, the meetings were
able to be held at St. Michaels Church, which is about seven
minutes away.
What is our
focus?
Our
main focus has, and always will be, a deep devotion to Our
Lady. We start every meeting by praying the Rosary, and offer
our intentions to our dearest Mother Mary. Our meetings are
usually based on the Gospel reading for the upcoming Sunday. In
addition, there are activities, personal testimonies, guest
speakers, and small group discussions, which allow the youth to
ask questions about the readings and topics being discussed. All
of our teaching strictly follows the beliefs of the Catholic
Church, according to the Catechism. On the last Saturday of
every month, we have Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. During
these special meetings, we pray a Scriptural Rosary and have
time in silence to adore Our Lord, as He is fully present in the
Eucharist. Moreover, Confession is also available every Saturday
for the youth who are present.
Why Breath
Of Life?
The
origin of “Breath of Life Youth Group” comes from Genesis 2:7
and John 20:22. The youth group is the first of its kind in St.
Peter’s Diocese, and we wanted it to be a breath of fresh air
for the entire community. We try to live our life through the
Holy Spirit who strengthens us to do the Father’s Will. Our
intention is to make the group a place of prayer and fellowship
for all of the youth in our community, who are seeking a
Christ-centered life.
"And when He had said this,
He breathed on them and
said to them, 'Receive the Holy Spirit.'"
~ John 20:22 ~
